Markus Bauer

Mental Health Speaker & OCD Advocate

Originally from Denmark and based in England since 1997, I spent over three decades as a professional dressage rider and trainer, immersed in a world of discipline, precision, and performance. To the outside world, I appeared composed and accomplished—but privately, I was living with a relentless inner struggle.

I’ve suffered from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) since early childhood, though it wasn’t diagnosed until my late twenties. The lack of understanding—both within myself and from those around me—allowed the disorder to take roots deeply, leading to clinical depression and moments of despair so profound that I contemplated ending my life. Yet, outwardly, I maintained a mask of control and success, something many OCD sufferers will recognize.

In my late forties, everything changed. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a growing connection to spirituality, I found the path to healing and, ultimately, peace. These experiences not only transformed my life—they redefined my purpose.

Today, I am passionately committed to raising awareness about OCD and mental health through public speaking and book writing. My mission is to shed light on the often-misunderstood nature of OCD, to share my personal journey of struggle and recovery, and most importantly, to give voice and hope to those who are suffering in silence. OCD thrives on shame and secrecy, and I believe that by speaking openly, we can dismantle the stigma and create space for understanding and compassion.

Mental health conversations need honesty, empathy, and lived experience—and I speak not just to inform, but to connect. If my story can help even one person feel less alone, then it’s a story worth sharing.
